Home Survey
When you request a house removals quote from Stokes Removals, we will arrange a free home survey so that we can provide a service that is fully tailored to your individual requirements. Our surveyors will take into account factors such as the number and size of items you are moving, whether you require a partial or full packing service, and whether you need assistance with dismantling and reassembling furniture.
From the survey, we can calculate the requirement for packing materials along with the size of the removals vehicle required to give you the best possible price. If you work for the military, emergency services, or the NHS, we can provide you with an additional discount.

Planning your house move - top tips
To ensure your house move goes as smoothly as possible, it’s essential to start planning as soon as possible. Here are some important things to remember:
2 months before
Choose your home removals company. The earlier you contact the company, the more likely they are to have your chosen dates and times available – this is especially important if you plan to move over the weekend as this tends to be the most popular time for moving house. You can also purchase your packing materials so that you can make a start on packing.
1 month before
Start to declutter and get rid of anything you don’t want to take with you. Items that still have a good amount of use left in them can be donated to charity shops or sold on eBay, a great way to earn some extra money to put towards your removal costs.
Start notifying companies of your change of address, this includes your doctors and dentist, the DVLA, gas, electricity, and water company, banks, the council, and your insurance company.
3 weeks before
Now is the perfect opportunity to double check everything is still going ahead according to plan. Call your removal company to confirm they have the correct date and time booked, and check with your solicitor that everything is still moving forward.
Start to pack up any non-essential items. Don’t forget about the ones in the garden or outbuildings.
Remember to make an inventory so you know which items are in which box.
Arrange to have your mail forwarded.
1 week before
Contact your estate agent to arrange a time to collect the keys to the new property.
1 day before
Fill an ‘open me first’ box that includes all of the essentials you’ll need when you arrive at your new home. This box can include things such as the kettle, cups, tea/coffee, snacks, toilet rolls, first aid kit, and the tools you’ll need to start setting up your new home.
Moving day
Begin packing frozen and chilled foods ready for transportation. Chiller boxes and freezer bags will help to keep them cool.
Turn off the water and electric – don’t forget to take your final meter readings!
Lock the windows. Leave all the keys for the new owners.
Do a final check inside and outside to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything important.
